  • FAQ's about the Leaders Training Program

    FAQ's:

    1. Do I need to be a Certified SUP/Snowboard/Surf/Skateboard coach/instructor to become a Certified Girls on Boards Leader?

No! You don't need to be a Certified Instructor before taking this program. Our requirements for running a Girls on Boards event is you must have a Certified Instructor present and leading the event with you, but as the facilitator of the event, you do not need to be the certified instructor. Leaders that want to lead their own events (become a Licensed Provider), must get their instructors certification in order to be covered by insurance (except in skateboarding where their is no specified instructor training at this time) Our skateboarding programs are always in partnership with a municipality or recreation company in order to have insurance for the event.

    2. Our municipality is interested in offering your programs, can we take the training as a group?

Yes! This is a great program to do together. We have group rates although you will all go through the course individually, you can watch the videos together and do your presentations as a group.

    3. What support is offered to leaders after completing the Certified Leaders training program?

After completing your training, you will be included in our Group Pages and Discussions on Facebook (or a new platform if we move!) so you can ask questions and get support whenever needed. Our team is available to answer questions at anytime through email. You'll also have access to order GOB t-shirts, stickers, wristbands etc at our group rate for your team and your participants. We also will give you resources to promote and build your events. You'll also be invited to our monthly meetings (zoom) that happen from May - Oct.

    4. How long is the certification valid for? Is there re-certification required?

Your certification training lasts for as long as you are a leader but we required your updated safety certifications to be uploaded annually (we'll check in) and we will send out new info about additional trainings available as our organization grows and expands.

    5. Can I do this training even if I never lead a Girls on Boards program?

Yes! We believe this training is all about empowerment. Empowering yourself and using these skills in your personal life and community brings so much value. There is no pressure ever to run a Girls on Boards event, that is just a bonus.

    6. I would like to do programs for other youth (BIPOC, Boys, Different Abilities, Adults) or in another sport like Surfing, Rollerblading, or ??!!! can I with this training?

Yes! The Girls on Boards platform is a launching place meant to support recreation empowerment by creating encouraging safe environments and connecting us through vulnerable conversations. If you want to bring these programs to your group or community in a different way than what we're doing right now - we totally encourage that! A very important component of our mission and training is making sure you are in alignment with your own mission and passion as you share and connect with others, we're excited to support your ideas and creations!

    7. I'd like to apply for grants under the Girls on Boards name in my community, can I do that as a Certified Leader?

Right now, we can only support Official Girls on Boards Licensed Providers* (additional training and requirements) to apply for grants as a partner of Girls on Boards Organization - but we have been successful! If this is something you are interested in, please contact us for further details.

    8. I have another question I need answered before making the decision to sign up, how do I do that?

For sure! Send us an email at: team@girlsonboards.co and we'll answer as best we can.
